The National Monuments Service's description
National Monument No. 228. This ogham stone originally stood upright (see KE089-011008-) at the E entrance of the ecclesiastical enclosure (KE089-011) or possibly within the enclosure (Lynch 1909, 166), but now lies on two concrete mounts just outside of it. It measures 2.47m long. As a palimpsest the inscription is difficult to decipher. Macalister (1945, 224, no. 230) provided the reading: D[. . .]A[.C?.] AVI DALAGNI [MAQI C. . .?] superseded by: EQQEGGNI MAQI MAQI-CARATTINN. (O’Sullivan and Sheehan 1996, no. 936)
This stone has been studied as part of the ‘Ogham in 3D’ project undertaken by the School of Celtic Studies, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies. To access details go to the following website:
