The National Monuments Service's description
A circular enclosure is marked at this location on the first edition of the OS map, on a low rocky rise surrounded by poorly drained boggy pasture. No visible trace of the enclosure survives, but the lintelled entrance to a souterrain (KE088-026001-) is located on the N side of the rise. This measures 1.3m x .3m, and gives access to a 2.3m long passage which slopes sharply downwards, reaching a maximum depth of 1.2m. The sides of the drystone-built passage corbel slightly and are well-constructed of regular courses of flat slabs. Larger slabs are used in the lower courses. The passage averages 1m wide and is roofed with slabs. A small lintelled creep way in its end-wall, .3m high, appears to lead into a second passage.
The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 627. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
