The National Monuments Service's description
This stone is situated in bog on the steep S slopes of Boughil mountain, and commands an extensive view over Kenmare Bay. Block-like in appearance, it stands 1.38m high and is roughly trapezoidal in basal plan, where it has maximum dimensions of 1.02m x .5m; NE-SW. Packing stones are apparent beneath the growth of bog at its base. The site is recorded as 'Buachaill Finnleithid' in OSNB (Derreenfinlehid, 4).
The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 165. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
