The National Monuments Service's description

There is a roughly circular cairn on the summit of a low hill within the centre of the valley. The surrounding landscape is visible from the site with the backdrop of the mountains circling the area. The cairn is located on the watershed between the Caol and the Owroe River to the east.
The cairn of stone is between 10-12m wide and consisted of large to medium boulders between
0.20-0.5m in diameter. The cairn rises 0.75m above the general topography. It appears to be
further surrounded or set within an oval earthwork extending 5m to the north, east and west of
the cairn and up to 20m to the south. A number of stones are set at angles 5m to the south of
the stone cairn at the southern edge of the monument and this may be part of a robbed out cist
or chamber.

The above description is derived from an archaeological assessment report for a proposed new forest at Toorsaleen, Co. Kerry. The report was compiled by Edmond O'Donovan & Associates in April 2014. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
