The National Monuments Service's description

Recent erosion at (KE079-117----) has exposed an irregular, blackened, stony spread, 5m x 2.9m, which contains a large quantity of iron slag, vitreous clay and bone fragments. A sample of tuyére fragments and scraps of sheet iron from this spread are now in the NMI (1988: 228; 1989:5a-f; 1989:6a-c). A second area (KE079-117001-), 17m to SE, contains some large lumps of iron slag and could represent another smelting site.

The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 1460. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
