The National Monuments Service's description
Internal diam. 21.05m N-S, 22.4m E-W
This caher is located in pasture on the S facing slope of Beenbane, and affords broad views of the Bridia and Cloon valleys to E and S. The enclosing wall consists of a rubble core faced internally and externally with drystone masonry. It is poorly preserved at NE, but elsewhere survives up to 3.6m high and 3.8m wide. It is 1.3m high internally, and much collapse abuts its inner face at N. A 1.1m wide gap at SE seems to represent the original entrance. A gap at WNW, 1.5m wide, appears to be of recent origin.
The rectangular outline of a hut (KE072-011001-) abuts the inner face of the enclosing feature at W. It measures 3m x 1.8m internally and features a 1.1m wide entrance at E. Just to SE is a pile of field clearance material. There is locally reputed to be an inaccessible souterrain at the site.
The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 596. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
