The National Monuments Service's description
Internal diam. 29m NW-SE, 22m NE-SW
This oval-shaped univallate rath is located on a terrace overlooking the Ferta river to N, c. 350m E of KE070-051----. It commands a view of the whole Ferta valley from Teermoyle mountain at E to Valencia Harbour at SW. The external fosse, 2.4m in basal width, is best preserved along the S sector of the site, where its outer edge is defined by a modern field boundary. Here, the bank rises a maximum of 3m above the fosse and falls 1.3m to the interior. Elsewhere the bank is steep-sided. An entrance gap at SE measures 1.75m wide and is much eroded. A second gap occurs in the bank at NW, and appears to be relatively recent.
Centrally located in the rath's interior are the sod-covered remains of a circular hut (KE070-052001-). Measuring 6.3m N-S x 5.8m E-W internally, its much collapsed wall averages 2m wide. A .8m wide gap at E marks its entrance.
The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 553. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
