The National Monuments Service's description

Henry described a 'series of ruins above and below the highest modern fence' on the N side of Castlequin, overlooking Coonanna Harbour. She identified a small, ruinous stone fort which enclosed the remains of a number of hut sites. To E, over the fence, was a ruined oval enclosure (KE069-020001-), possibly a hut site, with internal dimensions of 7 feet (2.1m) x 5 feet 6 inches (1.7m). An entrance occurred in the wall at N. Another, less carefully built, structure (KE069-020002-) occurred a short distance N and had an internal diameter of 14 feet (4.7m) x 9 feet (2.7m) (1957, 66, Plate XLIV). The site is not marked on the OS maps and permission to visit it was refused.

The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 721. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
