Ringfort - rath

The National Monuments Service's description

In pasture, on a N-facing slope, immediately S of a road. A circular area (diam. c. 35m) defined by the remains of two earthen banks, except along the N arc where it is truncated by the road. The inner earthen bank (Wth 4m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.3m) and intervening fosse (Wth c. 3m) survive along the E and S arcs. The outer earthen bank (Wth 2.9m; ext. H 0.8m) is clearly visible NNE-S with a scarp surviving S-NW. The level interior has been slightly raised at N to compensate for the downslope though it still retains a slight slope down to the N. The NW quadrant is covered in overgrowth. There is a souterrain (KE058-093001-) in the interior. A linear feature (L c. 5m; Wth 3m), on a NW-SE axis, which abuts the internal face of the inner bank at E, may be associated with the souterrain. There is a possible entrance at S. According to the landowner, the interior was cleared in the 1990s during the construction of a house, located outside the rath to the E. There is a fulacht fia (KE058-138----) c. 70m to the W.
