Ogham stone

The National Monuments Service's description

Four ogham stones [KE057-107----, KE057-107002-, KE057-107003- KE057-107004-] were displayed by the Macgillycuddy of the Reeks at the Dublin Exhibtion in 1853. At least two of these (KE057-107002- and KE057-107----) were discovered in a souterrain in this townland (Macalister 1945, 208). The souterrain, not marked on the OS maps, is locally reputed to have been located on the NW side of Baunclune House, but no surface trace of it remains. Three of these ogham stones are in the National Museum of Ireland (Reg. No. W10-12; DU018-362----; DU018-363----; DU018-364----). The fourth stone (NMI Reg. no. W9) is in Kerry County Museum, Tralee (KCM LI992:31; KE029-320----). For this stone see DU018-364----. This stone stands at least 1.06m high and is trapezoidal in section, measuring 0.26m x 0.23m. The inscription is executed in broad, deep scores along both angles. The dexter angle is badly damaged and Macalisler (1945, 212, no. 218) interpreted the remaining scores as: L[A]G[O]BB[. . . The inscription on the second angle is poorly executed and reads: MUCO-TUCACAC. (O'Sullivan and Sheehan 1996, no. 908)
