Ogham stone

The National Monuments Service's description

Macalister (1945, 249) recorded that 'two stones were raised from the souterrain of a fort, the name of which is given as "Lisnareabh," on lands in the occupation of a man called Foley, innkeeper of Killorglin, who showed them to Windele. Windele acquired them and removed them to Cork; they are now in the Royal Irish Academy's collection.' This stone is currently in the National Museum of Ireland storage facility at Daingean, Co. Offaly (OF018-197----). There is a ringfort (KE057-006----) in the townland of Tinnahally named 'Lisnareabagh' on the OS 6-inch map and it contains a souterrain (KE057-006001-). It seems probable that the stones came from here. This stone is of clay-slate and measures 1.83m x 0.3m x 0.28m (6 feet x 1 foot by 11 inches). The inscription, a palimpsest with most of the earlier inscription spalled away, (up-down) reads: ANM VURUDDRANN MAQ[I] DOLIGENN (Macalister 1945, 249, no. 255). See also KE057-105002-.
