The National Monuments Service's description
Internal diam. 27m ENE-WSW
Lisnakeellough/Lios na Coille: This heavily overgrown bivallate rath is located in low-lying land S of the Laune river estuary. The external bank and fosse are only extant in the W sector, where the bank rises .6m above external ground level and averages 2.5m wide. The flat-bottomed fosse reaches a maximum depth of 1.2m, and a basal width of 4.6m. The overgrown inner bank rises up to 4m from the fosse and measures 3.5m wide at WSW. It is composed of earth with a substantial content of small stones. It falls 1m on average to the much modified interior of the rath which has been used as a farmyard, and contains concrete sheds in its NW quadrant. A concrete pillar and gate occur at a gap in the bank at SE, which may mark the original entrance to the site. An opening to an inaccessible stone-built souterrain (KE056-008002-) occurs on the external face of the bank at W.
The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 543. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
