The National Monuments Service's description

According to Westropp (1897, 300), 'a row of burial cairns stand or stood near Caheratrant', on the W side of Ventry Harbour. Caheratrant townland is in 2 parts, separated by Raheens townland, and it is not clear to which location Westropp is referring. He also noted that a great quantity of human bones had once been exposed at Ventry Strand. Other burial cairns have been recorded at the E end of Ventry strand in Cantra townland (KE052-045----).

The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 231. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
