The National Monuments Service's description

This is the home of Peig Sayers a renowned Irish author and seanachaí. She was born in 1858 near Dún Chaoin (Dunquin), Co. Kerry and moved to the Great Blasket Island after marrying in 1892 Pádraig Ó Guithín, a fisherman and native of the island. She and Pádraig had eleven children, of whom six survived. Peig returned to her native Dún Chaoin in 1942 and died in 1958. She is best remembered for her autobiography 'Peig' but she also recounted folklore and other stories which were recorded in 'Machnamh Seanmhná/An Old Woman's Reflections': these books were not written by Peig but comprised reminiscences dictated to others.
