The National Monuments Service's description
Internal diam. at least 25m
This univallate rath is perched on the edge of the sea-cliffs that border the N side of Dingle Bay, W of the Inch peninsula. It was shown on the 1st edition of the OS map as a circular enclosure, but all but the NE part of the site has now fallen into the sea. The fosse is present only around the N side of the present remains. It increases considerably in depth as it approaches the narrow inlet or gorge to W of the site. At N it is 2.2m deep below the external ground level and 3.7m below the crest of the bank. The bank is a maximum of 2.95m high above the interior, but its E half is much less impressive than the N half, being only c. 1m high. The stone facing on the outer face of the bank in the E sector is probably a late feature related to the secondary use of the site for cultivation purposes; the interior is occupied by N-S cultivation ridges.
The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 462. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
