The National Monuments Service's description
This souterrain, running N-S beneath an old laneway, is located on the S slopes of Beenduff at the NE edge of the old clachan at Caheracruttera. It is not now accessible, but the collapse of one of the roofing slabs enables one chamber to be viewed.
The walls, of drystone construction, corbelling slightly towards the roof, define a chamber 1m high, c. 1.2m wide and at least 3.4m long; it is roofed by a series of large flat slabs. The W portion of the end wall at N has collapsed, but the drystone-built, E jamb of an opening at ground level remains visible. This opening presumably provided access to a creepway or passage beyond. The S end of the chamber is completely blocked by collapse but local information indicates that the souterrain extended further in this direction.
The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 746. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
