The National Monuments Service's description

This site has been described as a circular fort with an external fosse (local information). It was destroyed fairly recently and the site, which lies in the old village of Ballineesteenig, is now occupied by a farmyard and out-buildings. On the 1st edition of the OS map it is depicted as a mound, suggesting that its condition was poor even then. It is named 'Fort' on the Fair Plan. An ogham stone (KE043-248----) formerly stood about 50m to E in the same farmyard.

The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 601. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
