The National Monuments Service's description
There is no visible trace of the 'Gallaun' marked on the OS maps. It was situated in fairly rough pastureland on the E slopes of Croaghmarhin, overlooking the broad crescent of lowlying land that surrounds Smerwick Harbour.
The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 157. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
