The National Monuments Service's description
Lismore/An Lios Mór: There is no visible trace of the circular univallate enclosure marked on the 1st edition of the OS map and described in the OSNB (Kilmalkedar, 39) as 1.5 chains (30.16m) in diameter and composed of earth. On the 2nd edition it is marked 'site of, but the W half of the bank was shown as a solid line, and on an aerial photograph taken in 1949 (Ministry of Defence, V. 158/93) this W portion is still visible and the E portion appears as a crop-mark. It was situated on low-lying, sandy ground on the E side of Smerwick Harbour.
The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 728. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
