The National Monuments Service's description

The precise location of the souterrain within a ringfort (KE028-090002-) within the townland of Kerries West has not been identified. According to the Minute Book of the Co. Kerry Field Club (Vol. 1, 02 November 1940, page 157) there are two forts within close proximity to one another in Kerries West. There is one known rath in the townland (KE028-090----). We do not know the location of the second 'old fort' (KE028-090002-) which was located to the 'rere of Barretts residence'. This possible rath which was partially levelled with only a portion remaining in the field fence when visited by the Kerry Field Club. However, the location of the fort was well known locally and the position of the souterrain (KE028-090003-) was pointed out to them.
