The National Monuments Service's description

According to the 'Urban Archaeological Survey of County Kerry' (Bradley, Halpin and King n.d., 20, no. 3), the '1584 survey of Desmond's lands and the 1587 grant to the English planters list various houses and burgages in Ardfert'. One of these residences is described as a 'mansion built near the Franciscan friary by David Crosbie in 1633-4.' Hickson (1874, 2-3) recorded the discovery in the grounds of its eighteenth century successor of a date stone (KE020-046016-) inscribed with the dates 1633 and 1635. Further details of this house are described in Bradley, Halpin and King (ibid.). The precise location of this 16th/early 17th century house is unknown.
