The National Monuments Service's description
Rathmorrell Castle. Very little is known about this castle. It is believed to have been built by the D'Cantillon family. O'Donovan (1841) states that it was a rectangular building, the walls of which remained to a height of 20 feet (6m). However, today only a slight trace of the castle remains. The walls were removed some time ago and used in the construction of a track and shed which lie immediately N of the castle. The castle now shows no signs of being rectangular in shape: all that remains is a mound of rubble measuring 25m N-S, 46m E-W and 1.7m on average in height.
