The National Monuments Service's description
This promontory fort is situated on the next headland N of the promontory fort below (KE009-077----). The promontory is 62m NW-SE and 23m NE-SW. In the W sector of the promontory is a rectangular house site 13.4m x 7.7m with walls 2m thick. They rise in height to between .16m to .25m. To the SE of this is another rectangular house-site 13.4m x 4.9m.
In the ENE sector is a sub-circular area 6.8m in diameter, with a 3.2m opening to the E.
The fosse is situated on the SE side and is 3.65m wide and ranges between 1.79m to 2.34m below the surrounding land. It is difficult to know whether the house-sites and Brown's Castle (KE009-024002-) are contemporary or whether the features contained within the promontory are of an earlier date.
The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 111. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
