The National Monuments Service's description
This site is marked on the OS maps as Lisheencankeragh (little fort of the sheep's head). Immediately SW of this lies a small hut site (KE008-002----). Most of the promontory that was entrenched is now gone. The fosse and banks are convex to the land. The outer fosse measures 1.2m below the height of the surrounding land and is 2m wide. The external height of the bank measures .8m, the width at the base 6m, the internal height 1.6m. The width of the inner fosse measures 2m. The external height of the inner bank measures 3m, the width at the base c5.6m, the internal height 1.6m. The entrance possibly lay to the S where a causeway leads into the interior. The hut site to the SW is semi-circular in plan, measuring 3.7m N-S; it is constructed of stone and rises to a height of .4m. A small opening of c2m exists to the S. This hut site may be connected to the promontory.
The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 109. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
