The National Monuments Service's description
Described in the Urban Survey (Bradley et. al. 1986, 284-5) as following : ‘ William Fitzgerald 1623. In Fitzgerald mortuary chapel (KD037-017017-). Limestone. It consists of a cross slab (dims. L 1.95; Wth 0.76m; T 0.14m) resting on a side and end panel upon a plinth. The side panel is broken and one section is lying on the ground. The decoration is in low false relief. Banded fleur-de-lys cross on steps with HIS in centre of the transom and a band with initials WFG and IK. There is a sun and moon with face above the cross. Marginal inscription in Roman capitals : HIER LIETH WILLIAME / FITZGERALD AND HIS FIRST WIFE IOAN KEITING AND HIS SECOND WIFE CISELLE GEIDON: IVANE / DIE THE 21 DAY OF FEBRVARI IN THE YEAR OF OUR GOD 1623. The table is chamfered to fit the side and end panels. End Panel (dims. H 0.55m; Wth. 0.64m; T 0.12m): A crucifixion.’ (Fitzgerald 1899-1902).
