The National Monuments Service's description
On a slight pasture rise. According to Murphy (1896, 53), in a parliament held at Naas in 1472, the Abbot of Baltinglass requested that permission be given to Rowland Eustace, Lord Portlester, to build a £10-castle at 'Balablaght'. No castle is recorded in Ballybought townland, so the reference may be to the castle in the neighbouring townland of Boleybeg. No visible surface trace survives.
