The excavated site (Thaddeus C. Breen, Licence No. 01E0350: www.excavations.ie) consisted of a series of five pits containing fire-shattered stone in a matrix of charcoal-rich soil. They had been cut into by two sets of spade cultivation furrows running at right angles to each other. Pit 29 was approximately oval in plan but quite irregular. From the profile it could be seen that it had been dug at least once. Pit 30, immediately to the south, was likewise multi-phase, consisting of three overlapping pits. Pit 14 was oval, and more regular in shape. It measured 1.22m by 0.85mm and was 0.15m deep, but it may have been truncated. Pit 28 was approximately circular, 2.65m in diameter. It was round-bottomed, with steep sides, and contained four fills. The lowest fill did not contain burnt stone. Three of the fills contained unburnt animal bone. Four sherds of medieval pottery were found in the uppermost fill.
Pits 34/35 were two adjoining irregularly shaped pits at the eastern edge of the site. They contained charcoal-rich soil and burnt stones. Twenty-four sherds of medieval pottery were found here.
