The National Monuments Service's description
According to Bradley et al. (1986 vol. 4, 436-9), the royal escheator's accounts for the bishopric of Kildare, during a vacancy in the see from 1272-76, include an account of £11 10s. 3d. for burgage rents in 'Selyok', identified by Devitt (1918-21, 417) as Silliothill. 'Selyok' formed part of the bishop's manor of Kildare, but the archbishop of Dublin had possessions there valued at 20s. yearly in 1302-6 (Sweetman 1875-6, v, 238). The fate of the borough is unknown, but the absence of documentary references suggests that it was abandoned in the 14th C. The precise location and extent of the borough is unknown, but Bradley et al suggest (op. cit. 437) it may have been in the vicinity of a surviving, but poorly preserved enclosure (KD022-032001-). They also refer (op. cit. 437) to, 'the castle or messuage of Silliat' (KD022-032002-) which has not been located either.
