The National Monuments Service's description
According to Bradley et al. (1986 vol. 3, 204-5), there is documentary evidence for the presence of fortified townhouses in Kildare in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries, including ‘Nugent's Castle’ which is referred to in a rental of 1684 as being in ‘Little Broadhooke’. That street has not been identified, but may have been located at the Station Road end of the Market Square, which was know as Nugent Street in the 19th century. No visible surface traces survive.
