The National Monuments Service's description
The 1302-06 ecclesiastical taxation of the Diocese of Kildare valued the church of 'Fythcolyn' at £4 per annum (Cal. doc. Ire., 244). According to the OSL (Herity 2002, 68-9 (201-2)), 'The Parochial church (KD017-009003-) stands on the site of the old church (O'Flanagan 1927, 71). An Inquisition taken 20th May 1568 recorded; 'Fecullen occurs as a rectory'. The 19th century Parochial church (KD017-009003-) stands in a graveyard (KD017-009005-) in the S sector of a possible early ecclesiastical enclosure (KD017-009004-). There is no visible trace of an earlier church on the site. Possible chamfered stone of medieval church reused as a gravemarker in S quadrant of graveyard.
