The National Monuments Service's description
The precise location of the watermill located in the townland of Lady Castle has not been identified. Straffan Corn Mill standing on the banks of the river Liffey which is depicted on the 1838 ed. OS 6-inch map may have been located on the site of or in close proximity to the medieval mill of Lady Castle. The 1654-56 Civil Survey of Kildare recorded the following; 'There is one Mill in Lady Castle aforesaid belonging unto William Sarsfield which is now in repaire and was let in the yeare 1640 for three score barrels of all sorts of Corne' (Simington 1952, 59).
