The National Monuments Service's description

Recorded as 'Alasty Castle' on the Down Survey (1655-6), possibly in the vicinity of the later 'Alasty House', a square, two-storied, heavily rendered possible 19th century house standing near the top of a short, gentle, E-facing slope, which is drained by a small N-flowing stream, a tributary of the Painestown River, immediately to the E. The owners had no knowledge of the existence of a castle, and the precise location of the monument remains known.
