The National Monuments Service's description

In a gravel pit near the foot of a steep, N-facing pasture slope, which was formerly wooded (as shown on the 1st ed. (1838) of the OS 6-inch map) and c. 100m ESE of a church (KD009-011001-), graveyard (KD009-011002-) and possible children's burial ground (KD009-011003-). A furnace bottom was discovered in collapsed gravel at the E-foot of the pit-face and, according to the landowner, many pieces of iron-slag were encountered during ploughing in the field immediately to the N. A row of stones three courses high, possibly part of a wall, was noted in the quarry face nearby, but is of uncertain significance, and not conclusively linked to this site.
