The National Monuments Service's description

According to the OSL (Herity 2002, 2), ' … the site of Shaughlin's castle … is now covered with three white thorn bushes and some briars. …(its) ancient name was Foxe's Castle'. Furthermore, 'At a distance of about 18 perches (c.90m) to the West of it, was discovered in the making of a ditch, a Vault, which belonged to this Castle, and appears to have been 6 feet (c.1.8m) broad.' On level pasture at the N end of Shaughlin's Glen. There is no visible surface trace of either the castle or 'vault'. Their distance apart is difficult to reconcile, unless the 'vault' was part of the castle and the location of the castle recorded on the OS 6-inch maps is incorrect.
