The National Monuments Service's description
According to O'Leary (1896-99, 135-38) there was a religious house (KD003-020----) dedicated to St. Fionntan, a 'burial place' (KD003-020001-) and a stone cross (KD003-02002--) in this area. He quotes from a 1608 Inquisition held at Naas that, '… John Lye of Rathbride, gent., being seized of divers lands in the said townland of Clonaugh, levelled the tenements, bounds, and limits of said religious house, threw down and destroyed the cross and trees and erected a tower, or small castle (KD003-017----), with other buildings.' A cross-base (KD004-001----) now in Johnstown is reputed to have come from here and O'Leary also identifies a cross (KD003-016001-) and possible burials (KD003-016002-) at Cadamstown, c. 1km to NW, as being connected with this religious house. The precise locations of the religious house, burial ground and cross are unknown but would appear to have been in the general vicinity of the castle (KD003-017----).
