The National Monuments Service's description
Near the cliff edge to NE of Dún Dúcathair (GA119-001----). Westropp (1914, 334) mentions the existence of 'three hut-sites, with middens, outside the wall of the abattis' or chevaux-de-frise of this promontory fort, but concluded that 'they are probably late'. All that survives today is a partially destroyed horseshoe-shaped cairn (E-W 5.4m) with an entrance at E and traces of double walling at N. This structure may well be the eroded remains of the 'large Cloghaun nearly destroyed' described in the OS Letters as being 'To the east of Dún Dúcathair (O'Flanagan 1927a, Vol. 3, 140). It is described therein as having been '18 feet, 6 inches [5.65m] in diameter and [had] a small chamber in the wall still perfect'.
