The National Monuments Service's description
On the summit of a motte (GA116-029----). A castle was in existence here in 1574 when it was labelled 'Dunery' castle, then in the possession of 'Carbery Mc Egan and ye Judges' (Nolan 1901, 111). All that survives is a low subcircular wall foundation (N-S 16m, E-W 15m int.). The wall itself (Wth 0.8m, H 0.6m int.), heavily grass-grown and partially obscured by overgrowth, has been removed in the SE sector. The interior is slightly lower than the exterior.
