The National Monuments Service's description
This fulacht fia is located at the N end of a low narrow N-S spine of raised dry ground that juts into the S side of a flat expanse of semi-tidal salt marsh which is bordered to the N by the inner reaches of Corranroo Bay. It is also fed by a number of freshwater springs, one of which flows in a narrow channel northwards into the marsh, c. 10m to the NE of the fulacht fia. The Kinvara-Ballyvaughan road borders the S side of the field, c. 40m to the S.
The fulacht fia consists of a compact sod-covered D-shaped or roughly kidney-shaped mound (c. 12m E-W; c. 7m N-S; H 1-1.4m), with a gently domed profile and broadly sloping sides. It curves on the S half; the N side is straighter, but with a very slight indentation, and a shallow hollow at the base of the slope, facing the wet ground, which may indicate the location of a trough. At the time of visit, a small portion of the mound on the E side was denuded of sod, revealing characteristic concentrations of angular stone fragments (limestone) in black soil. A small cluster of medium-sized stones (4 or 5) lie on top of the mound.
