The National Monuments Service's description

According to the OS Letters, there was a castle in 'the townland of Stradbally North' which was known as 'the castle of Cladagh' (O'Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 294). However, Redington (1912, 180-81) could find no remains of the castle 'nor ... any tradition of such a building having existed'. Part of S side of the estuary of the Clareen River c. 1km SW of the village of Clarinbridge is marked on the OS maps as 'Cladagh'. This area was field walked and no trace of the castle was noted. Not located.
