The National Monuments Service's description

Associated with the Martyn family and possibly the house (GA103-033001-). According to Holt (1911-12, 241), the Martyns were 'reputed to have been brewers' and, according to local people, the remains of a cross (GA103-033002-) he noted in the vicinity of the house were believed to be 'only the shaft of the brewery scales'. The exact location of the brewery has not been identified. It may have been one of the buildings shown on the 1837 edition of the OS 6-inch map to the SE and SW of the house.
