The National Monuments Service's description
This memorial stone lies against the S wall of an enclosure surrounding the holy well (GA095-145002-). It is finely carved in high relief and is dedicated to the Lynches. It reads: ‘Pray for the soules of John Linch fitch Geffrie fitch Dom of Gallway and Marey Linch fitch William his wife 1645’. It appears that the inscription was cut before John Lynch was transplanted to Lavally (Blake 1914, 75). In 1914 it was recorded that the slab 'was probably set up in the (now ruinous) wall enclosing the well by John Lynch Fitz. Geoffrey himself ... . Anthony Lynch, last of Lavally, moved the inscribed slab from the well to his garden, whence, on his leaving Ireland, it was restored by the tenantry to what they considered its proper place.’ (Lynch 1914, 93).
