The National Monuments Service's description

In level pastureland at the junction of the main road and the driveway to Lavally House. Well-preserved mortared limestone pillar (L/Wth 1.2m; H 2.5m). Set in to W face is an inscribed plaque dedicated to the Lynch family. The inscription reads: ‘Pray for the soules of John Lynch fitz Geffrey fitz Domnick of Gallway late of Lavally & Mary Lynch fitz William fitz Andrew his wife & his son Thomas Lynch fitz John of Gallway late of Lavally and his wives Ellinor Martin fitz Thomas of Cuale and Ann Joyes fitz John fitz Andrew and their posterity 1712 +’ (Blake 1914, 75-6). According to Redington (1912, 68), it was 'originally surmounted by a cross', no trace of which survives. (O'Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 460)
