The National Monuments Service's description
Surrounding a priory (GA088-001----). A number of D-shaped enclosures defined by low banks are visible to N of the priory. Fanning (1976, 121) notes that some of the banks appear to radiate from it as if dividing a large enclosure into smaller segments. However, no clearly defined traces of a monastic enclosure were observed. To S lies a less well-defined group of rectangular fields which bear little or no relationship with the priory; they may indicate 'later post-medieval field use' (ibid.). Some 200m to E, a low hillock appears to have traces of ridge and furrow cultivation. A small stony mound (N-S 4.8m, E-W 3m) is visible on its summit.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999).
