The National Monuments Service's description
Within a ringfort (GA086-231----). Marked on 3rd ed. of OS 6-inch map (1947-8) as a small open circle labelled 'Souterrain', in SW part of the rath. What survives are the partially collapsed remains of a possible chamber, in NW quadrant. It comprises an L-shaped depression, its long axis (L 4.8m) running E-W. The upper courses of N side-wall are visible, along with two large lintels, still in situ, at W end of what may be a rectangular chamber. Extending S from E end of the depression is a possible creep or recess (L 2m, Wth 1m). (Topgr. Files, NMI)
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999).
