The National Monuments Service's description
In the list of castles in Galway, compiled in 1574, is one at 'Cahernyne' in the barony of 'Kingestowne' (Athenry), then is possession of 'Tybbott beg' (Nolan 1901, 121). Though Cody (1989, 351) equates this with a castle in townland of Carnaun, 4km NNW of Athenry (see GA084-040001-), it is more likelyto have been located somewhere in townland of Caherroyn. Not located.
