Cist

Discovered in 1931 while quarrying for sand in an esker, this rectangular slab-built short-cist (L 1.1m; Wth
0.6m; H 0.48m) was aligned NE-SW. It was composed of five limestone slabs set on edge, one slab forming the N, E and S sides while the W side was made up of two parallel thin slabs. It contained the crouched skeletal remains of an adolescent female adult, a cremation representing an adult female and an adolescent. The burials were accompanied by an inverted vase, two flint scrapers and fragments of the skull of a
child (Cahill and Sikora 2011). No visible surface trace survives. Another cist may also have been found in the vicinity of this one in 1929 - see GA084-045001-. (Waddell 1975, 14; 1990, 92)
