The National Monuments Service's description

Associated with a holy well (GA084-022001-). On inspection in November 1983, this almost square cross-base (0.76m N-S; 0.74m E-W; T 0.27m) with a mortise (0.23m N-S; 0.22m E-W), very slightly set off-centre, was lying flat on the ground c. 4m to the SW of the well. It was of unknown date. Considerable work has since been carried out on the well and its environs as part of FÁS Schemes from 1987 to 1989, and in the 1990s when the area was developed as a park to celebrate the millennium year, 2000 (https://athenryparishheritage.com/our-ladys-well-by-canon-tony-king-p-p/ last accessed 5 January 2023). It is likely that the cross-base has been moved as a result of these works.
