The National Monuments Service's description
A number of architectural fragments (door spandrels, window hood-mould fragments and window stops carved with vine-leaf enrichment dating from the 15th-17th century) have been incorporated in the fabric of this grotto which was erected in 1945. The fragments were taken from the walls around Menlo Castle (local information, see GA082-064----) and it is possible that some originated from houses in Galway city.
