The National Monuments Service's description
On rough open moor close to S end of Loch na Scainimhe. Layard (1897, 378) noted 'a stone mound' in this area 'which I instantly recognised as a grave, and on looking about several more were seen in the neighbourhood'. According to a local source they were reputedly 'the graves of the people who built the “castle” ', i.e. the island cashel (GA077-022----) close to S shore of the lake. Not located.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993).
