The National Monuments Service's description

On a small rocky hummock in Tullokyne, a house cluster 1km E of Lough Corrib. In existence in 1574 when it was in the possession of 'Muriertagh Oconor' (Nolan 1901, 115). Also known as Caisleán na gCailleach, all that now survives is W wall with parts of the adjoining N and S walls, indicating a four to five-storey rectangular building (L 10.75m, Wth >3.55m). The doorway was probably in N wall. No trace of stairs survives but from the features visible in W wall the normal arrangement of a small bedchamber and large living room on each floor seems likely. There was an intramural latrine passage on 1st floor. No trace of the second castle, said to have been blown down in 1839, survives. (Killanin 1947, 123; Hardiman 1846, 55)

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993).
